CALL FOR ENTRIES

4th Annual AT&T Faculty-Staff Awards in Instructional Technology

***The deadline for applications for the 2008 MSU AT&T Awards for Instructional Technology is Feb. 15, 2008..

Michigan State University, Libraries, Computing, and Technology announces the fourth annual awards program to recognize and encourage a wide variety of best practices in the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning.

This awards program, generously funded by AT&T recognizes outstanding contributions to the use and development of information technology for teaching and learning in credit-bearing courses at Michigan State University.

Two first place cash awards, one from each of the following two categories, and honorable mention “best practice” certificates for both categories will be given in 2008:

Category one: Blended or Enhanced Course

(An in-person course offered in 2007-2008 in which online tools are used effectively to enhance teaching and learning; i.e., “web-enhanced”, “hybrid” or “blended” course, in which online tools replace some of the in-person class time.)

The downloadable Blended or Enhanced Online Course Application Form can be found at:

Category two: Fully Online Course

The downloadable Fully Online Course Application Form can be found at:

Eligibility:

Individual MSU faculty and staff, or often, teams of faculty and staff, who have developed and offered fully online, hybrid (blended), or enhanced credit-bearing MSU courses at least once between summer 2007 and spring 2008.

Nominations:

Recipients will be selected based upon nominations from the campus community. Self nomination is preferred though not required, because completing a nomination requires detailed knowledge of and access to the developed materials. Nominations will be screened by a committee of faculty and staff, which shall give due regard to the University’s commitment to diversity as well as to the University commitment to outstanding instruction and elegant, effective design and integration of technology.

Please submit nominations using the entry form corresponding to the category of the entry. The entry forms specify details of required sections for a submission and clarify criteria to be applied in selecting the winners.

Prizes:

Thanks to AT&T we have been able to increase the economic awards this year. The first place winning individual or team in each category will receive an award of $1500 of available credit to spend from a University account in ways that contribute to their professional development or further their use of technology in instruction.

Deadlines:

Electronic entries must include a completed application form and may include supporting materials. Electronic entry materials should be submitted via email to Carrie Heeter ( ) no later than 5pm Eastern Time on February 15, 2008.

Awards:

Entrants will be notified of the outcome of their entry by March 24, 2008. Promotion and formal recognition of winners will occur towards the end of Spring semester, 2008. It is expected that recipients will take advantage of all opportunities to share and demonstrate their award winning courses.
